In order for our children to flourish, the school curriculum is underpinned by our Christian values of faith, hope and love. These values, alongside the our bespoke SMSC programme and the British Values are woven throughout our programme of study and contribute towards equipping our children with the life skills necessary to enable them to become balanced, creative and successful individuals with a sense of morality, purpose, faith and determination.
Our curriculum is bespoke, written with our children and context in mind – we have identified Golden Threads (key themes) which run through the curriculum to highlight our values in action throughout history; key themes such as migration (hope), civilization (flourish), leadership (faith) and service (love) are studies this enables children to see our school values in action throughout history and it enables quality discussions around their importance – sometimes, when appropriate, the discussion can be around the consequences which follow when our core values are absent e.g. war etc.

In DT our values are linked to our Golden Threads of Innovation (flourish; decision making (hope); Sustainability (love) and Evaluation (faith) all of these threads are vital to our DT projects and understanding in school and demonstrate once again to our children our values in action e.g. we should consider the sustainability of the materials that we use and make do and mend as we love the planet that God has given to us.
Our curriculum empowers our children with the knowledge to develop their own beliefs and to make their own informed decisions. There are planned opportunities within the curriculum where children may, guided by their own beliefs, be willing to take a stand. Staff are also trained to ensure that they support children if they feel the need to become agents of change through an unplanned event e.g. No outsiders/picture news worship or news story etc. Our PHSE curriculum ensures designated time for mindfulness and being comfortable with stillness and silence and there are opportunities throughout the school day for the children to engage in prayer and reflection.
Additional examples of our school values in action may be found in the Geography curriculum as children explore the worlds mountains and famous mountaineers and explore if rainforests really are the lungs of the Earth etc. There are many examples of our values in action throughout the curriculum.
